What? Mountain Biking at the Rally? |
The Wine Taster's Tour - A Favorite Ride |
| |
|
Do you like to mountain bike too? The Paso Robles area
has some beautiful back country to riding. This year we are adding a couple of
guided tours provided by our sponsor
K Man Cyclery and Sport in
Atascadero.
Riders will meet at the shop in Atascadero at 9am Sat.
and/or Sunday. The rides will be between 10 and 15 miles. Maps to the shop will
be available at the rally headquarters. These rides are included in the Rally
Fee.
We also have non-guided route maps availabe if
requested.

|
This ride has been a Rally tradition for a number of
years one form or another. The current version cuts out some of the hills to
give you more wine, and less whine. It gives you a chance to visit five local
wineries: Peachy Canyon Winery, Castoro Cellars, Donati Family Vineyard, Norman
Vineyards, and Halter Ranch Vineyard.
By arrangement with these wineries, if you choose to
purchase any wine during your visit, you don't have to carry it on your bike.
The Rally will pick it up for you and you can retrieve it Sunday evening at
Registration on the fairgrounds. Even if you don't stop to taste the wine, this
is a pretty ride. Some of these wineries will be providing wine for tasting at
the Saturday night wine and cheese party at the Rally. Note: The late suggested
start time is because the tasting rooms often do not open until
11:00am |

Did You Know This About The
Rally? |
| |
| A Bit 'O History: The GWBR was the
brain child of Dr. Clifford Graves, a La Jolla California physician. Familiar
with similar events in Europe, Graves invited several friends to meet for a
weekend of bicycling in Solvang. The date.....1965. Over 20 folks shared his
memorable occasion. |

pronounced long) fosters and promotes a favorable climate for bicycling in
California by representing the interests of cyclists before the appropriate
governmental bodies to protect their rights and promoting laws, policies, and
actions that treat cyclists equitably.

many events at the Rally and many volunteers help to run them. Be sure to thank
them if you partipcate!

with our Sunday night cook-out and donate leftover food from the Cinderella
Classic.

Best of Bike Show: During the
Wine-Tasting Social |
|
For
those who put more effort into making their bike look beautiful than they do
riding, there is the "Best of Show" Contest. Entrants have their bike placed on
display Saturday evening to allow Rally participants, as they are strolling and
sipping, to vote for the best looking bikes in the following categories: Open,
Vintage, Tandem, Recumbent, and Unusual. Enter your bike into the contest by
registering at 6pm at the Rally Headquarters. The votes are tallied and the
