Is there mountain biking at the Rally?
The Rally is primarily geared towards road biking. However, the Rally does provide two guided mountain bike rides. While there are excellent off road trails for mountain bikers in the Paso Robles area, most of these are located away from fairground where all Rally ride routes begin and end. K-Man Cyclery and Sport will be leading mountain bike rides at designated times from their shop in Atascadero.

I only want to come for one day. Can I do that?
Relaxing - Great Western Bike Rally Yes. You have two choices. You can sign up for the entire Rally and enjoy all the amenities that are included just for the day. Or, we offer several one-day rides that are supported. This includes a Century, a Metric Century and a Women's Only Ride.

Is there RV camping as well as tent camping?
Yes. You can bring in RV's of any type. Located at various places around the fairgrounds there are RV hook ups providing electrical power and in a few places, there are water hook ups as well. We charge an additional $20 for the weekend if you use one of these hook ups. This fee is collected during your registration. (You are given a card to put on your dashboard to show you have paid.) In the past, we believe most campers desiring a hook up were able to find one.

If I arrive late, will there still be camping sites?

In past years, the entire camping area of the fairgounds has never been completely filled with campers. However, later arrivals will not be able to choose from among the more desirable camping locations. In the past, campers have arrived as late as Sunday and still found space to set up camp.

Are there shower and bathroom facilities for tent campers.

Yes! Portable hot showers are brought onto the fairgrounds specifically for the Rally. The fairgrounds has a large number of flush toilet bathrooms and sinks.

Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately NO. Pets are not allowed on the fairgrounds. We can give you information on a kennel in Paso Robles which can board your pet during the Rally. Otherwise, we respectfully request that you leave your pets at home.

How do I participate in the Swap Meet?
The swap meet is held Friday evening in the main Rally building. It is free to all Registered Rally Participants. Simply bring your spare parts and other bicycle related items which you wish to sell, find an empty space on one of the tables, set out your wares and hope you can sell them. You must be registered at the Rally to participate. The swap meet is NOT intended for commercial sellers of goods. It is intended simply as a way in which Rally Participants can attempt to sell extra or unwanted bike parts etc.

Are there things for families to do?
Yes! We encourage families to come to the Rally and offer a terrific family rate that includes parents and their children 18 and under. Many families come to the Rally as it is a non-intimidating atmosphere for kids to learn about riding. We have a kid's safety rodeo and kid's games in which we give away awards on Sunday night. Several of the rides offered are good for families, especially the Star Farms Ride where fthe kids spend the entire day swimming in a lake as the parents sit on a sandy beach drinking smoothies. Nothing better than that!

Are the rides supported?
Generally, no. The Rally offers approximately 25 different routes which are available for riding at any time during the weekend. It would be impossible to provide the type of support typically found on centuries or other fun rides with so many routes to be covered over such an extended period of time. However, all longer rides are routed past locations where food and water and toilet facilities can be found and these are generally indicated on the route slips. If you prefer support we do offer supported Century & Metric Century Rides and a Women's Only Ride (Velo De Femme). Rally participants and one-day riders are charged a fee for the support. See schedules and fees for a full explanation.

I can't get a motel reservation, what should I do?
We recommend that you do not wait until the last minute. Paso Robles is a wine-tasting destination and rooms get booked up on holiday weekends. Your options are as follows if you do not plan ahead.
  1. Camping on the fairgrounds.Ok, if you are looking for motel, you probably aren't into camping, but a lot of people do this, so it's worth considering. We have clean portable showers and hot water.
  2. Keep calling for cancellations.
  3. Get a room outside Paso Robles. Templeton, Atascadero San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, and Cambria are all in close proximity and have a lot more rooms available. San Luis Obispo is probably cheaper than motels on the coast and has easier freeway access to Paso Robles. It's only a half hour drive. You can drive to the fairgrounds in the morning to ride or participate in the competitions during the day. Then, if you bring a change of clothes with you, you could shower and change on the fairgrounds and be ready for the evening's activities without returning to your motel. It might not be as convenient as staying in Paso Robles, but a lot better than missing the fun altogether.
I don't ride, but my friend wants me to attend. What is there to do?
Plenty! Downtown Paso Robles has great restaurants. shops and wine-tasting rooms and even a brewery. In the evening, the Rally has plenty of activities to do with your friend. We can always use volunteersduring the day, and this is a terrific way to meet other people attending the Rally.

Even though I don't ride, can I attend evening Rally activities?
Yes, but you will be required to pay the Rally registration fee. All participants will need an wristband to go to the vendor fair, wine and cheese social, the awards and raffle and the bike swap. If you are camping with your spouse who does ride, you will need to pay the camping fee.
